It seems like I only post on my journal when I'm having a BAD FRICKIN' DAY.

I don't even know why. I went to bed in a foul mood, I woke up too early TWICE and just went right back to bed, because I couldn't handle being awake and I tried to do it a third time, but it didn't work, so now I'm just grumpy and agitated and I want to BURN DOWN THE WORLD. And I don't even know WHY. I'm just pissed off at everything and just about everything is making me RAGE to the point of wanting to hurl things.

SO YEAH. THAT'S BEEN MY THURSDAY, UNIVERSE. HOW ABOUT YOURS? >___<
Even with the blatant cheating on both sides of the Sheldon Cooper/Temperance Brennan match-up (seriously, guys, when did you get so bad at this?), Sheldon is the winner, so the results stand.

Rules/Directions

1. Vote for your FAVORITE character in each poll.

2. NO BITCHASSNESS. This game is my baby - there is nothing more annoying than reading whiny comments about how this game is being run wrong. I don't want to see any "why wasn't this show included?" or "where's this character?" or "but Jon Stewart isn't a character!" SHUT IT DOWN.

3. NO FAKE JOURNALS. Any fake journals created during the dates of this or last year's game will be discounted. Don't think I won't take the time to stop the game and count them all myself. I did it last year. I'll do it again. I'M BUYING ALL THE HOT DOGS AND GIVING THEM TO THE GOOD PEOPLE.

4. A schedule of the game can be found HERE.

5. Character campaign posters can be found HERE.

Some Whoverse Love

Dear Orla,

I LOVE YOU! You are the Master to my EVERYONE (but mostly to my silly little agent of time)! You are my Time Lord expert and my fellow, fun lovin' crazy! I seriously can't wait until TTA is up and running, we are going to have SO MUCH FUN!

Your Master is definitive, I honestly don't know if I could play with another now without feeling like it was wrong somehow. Your OCs are ALWAYS well thought out and put together and I LOVE reading all your threads, even the ones my kids aren't in.

You just keep being more awesome!

Dear Lucy,

I LOVE YOU TOO! Your Ianto is pretty much the best I've seem, and I've seen a lot. He makes my Jack all warm and fuzzy inside (which he's pretty okay with btw) and I still have giggle fits when I go back and read that goofy texting exchange. I know it was so silly, but it was also so in character that I can see the "deleted scene" play out in my head.

Your John is sort of EPIC. Seriously, you are UP IN that man's head like nothing else and it is SO much fun to read. Jack can't WAIT to get a scene with him. Especially if it leads to lots of kissing a row (and making up) with Ianto.

Seriously, guys, your talent is epic and I'm so awesomely happy and privileged to get the chance to write with you!

Yours in awe,
Wiccy

  • [info]accioslash: Pointing to a Post About Feedback... - I think this advice is good not just for comments to fic and art, but to all posts. This pisses me off in ways I cannot even begin to express. Trust me, I am the queen of nosy people. I read comments to all your posts all the time. Occasionally I will comment to someone else's comment. But I will ALWAYS then comment on the original post whether that post is fic, art, or even a meme. -
    (tags: comments)

  • [info]amberlynne: Just...no. - As a bamboozler, I tend to hang out with a lot of really talented fic writers (and artists!). As a commenter on the fics (and art!) that they post, and as someone who is generally having a chat with them after they have posted, I have picked up on a few things that I think every fic commenter should know. -

  • [dreamwidth.org profile] iambickilometer: we're all in this together - A friend and I were discussing race in comics, and an Asian-American character came up that she hadn't known about. She protested that there was no way, his last name was too white, to which I replied that he was mixed race. Her reply? "That's a copout. That practically doesn't count." -
    (tags: race comics)

  • [info]thefrogg: Confessions of the Multifannish - I read sex scenes in particular as an exploration of language. It's what makes a fandom a fandom, because the language changes. The tone changes. Hell, even the vocabulary changes. The euphemisms commonly found in SPN will be different from those found in bandom, in Babylon 5, etc. The combination of these things may not be unique, but they are different from fandom to fandom. I have yet to come across two fandoms that have the same fandom language signature. -
    (tags: slash reading)

  • [info]hkath: girl, you'll be a woman soon - when I'm reading a fic which is entirely focused on romance between 2 male characters, and one character expresses some weakness or emotion or performs some romantic gesture, and the other guy calls him a girl for it? Oh, boy, do my hackles rise. Why? Well, often, in the case of a one-shot or a very focused and shippy fic, this is the only mention of a girl in the entire story - a fond little jibe, sort of a patronizing "aren't you cute?" that also serves as a license to write men being emotional without being accused of being out of character. -

  • [dreamwidth.org profile] cimorene: Seriously, lj? (Seriously, fandom?) - if you keep using lj because other people are doing it, you're providing the content that lj is selling. You're part of the giant ball-and-chain anchoring fandom to lj. I don't want to be part of that -

  • [dreamwidth.org profile] melannen: On the feasibility of moving to all-DW, all-the-time - about a month ago I had to remove lj's javascript access completely in order to be able to log in to my account. On the upside, I am also no longer getting virus warnings every few days! And pages load a disturbing amount faster! On the downside, wow, there's a lot of stuff I can't do on lj anymore. Including bookmark fic on delicious/diigo, so I have even been trying to find as much fic as possible other places. So, here's why I still read my LJ friendslist despite all that: -

  • [info]evelynvaughn01: Canon Schmanon -- the Joy of Non-Canon Pairings - The very nature of the NCP, however, demands constant participation. In each episode, fans read between the lines, trying to differentiate deliberate foreshadowing from throw-away comments (sitcoms are particularly problematic this way, because the "Rule of Funny" often flies in the face of consistency). - -

  • [info]green_maia: Feminism and Complex Female Characters - To be human is to be complex. To be feminist is to treat females as fully human. Ergo, to be a feminist writer, it isn't enough to write strong female characters - you need to have COMPLICATED female characters. -

Mod Post - Community Moderation

  • Mar. 10th, 2010 at 9:48 PM
Hello All,

There was an incident this evening where what appears to be a spam account joined [info]talking_chess and posted what I believe was inappropriate content. It was clearly a video and appeared to be sexual in nature, I don't know for sure because I wasn't about to click on active content linked somewhere off of LJ. What I did instead was delete the post and remove the user from the community. Following up at the journal in question, it was definitely a account with some suspect behavior going on. (Only their own account friended and added to hundreds of unrelated communities. The only two posts had no text, just that video.)

I've gone ahead and changed the community's status to moderated for the time being. This is not something I want on a permanent basis. I want fans of this musical to come and go freely. I want them to say what's on their mind and share their creative works. I really want this to be an active community dedicated to something I love very much. However, I also don't want that trampled by people trying to spread malware via porn.

I'm the first to admit that I haven't done right by this community. I started it with the ideal of finding like-minded fans and sharing our enthusiasm, but life threw me a curveball and I wasn't able to put the time in to really get things rolling. I've appreciated those who've stepped up by posting links, discussions and fanworks, and the last thing I want is for those things to stop. I expect the community to be on full moderation for only a day or so while I sort things out, and then I expect that I will remove limits on posting. I think, however, that membership will have to be moderated from now on as a spam-fighting measure.

Please sound off in the comments, let me know if you think I'm overreacting or if you have any other suggestions for how to handle things.

And [info]frayedshoelace, I made you a moderator because you seemed to be stepping up in my place to get discussion going and content up where people could find it. I'll understand if you don't want to deal with this kind of crap.

So much awesome

I just wanted to thank everyone who helped get our weird pub rp musebxz together so quickly.

[info]its_a_pub is a wacky good time. We have piles of X-Men, anime, live action, OCs having drinks with each other...and then we expanded a bit.

I'll thank everybody individually later but I just wanted to toss some love.

Drive-by post is drive-by!

I am alive, I am surviving I am...also not going to be around for the rest of the week. By Monday everything is going to be back in order and hunky dory but right now I'm taking a bit of a break form net shaped things.

If anyone really needs to get in touch with me, go ahead and call. If you don't know the number, drop a comment here and...I don't know, someone who does know it may pass it along.

Beyond that, I have good thoughts for everyone and will see one and all on Monday!

P.S. The cane did wind up getting a name and it's not Wilson, sorry to say. However, some time soon I shall show off Jack Fairy aka Jack Crane.

I read your tag three times this morning. Three times. And once again right before heading out the door, and repeated exposure, may I just say, did not make it any less amazing*.

I should pretty much expect this of you at this point - and, actually, I do, considering how jazzed I am whenever I see I've got a tag. But for some reason you just outdid yourself this time. Thank you for being so incredible. Nine months and I still ship it as hard as I did when these shenanigans began.

* and by amazing of course i mean amazingly hot.

I am finding fake journals every second. Whoever is starting this new rash of cheating, stop it. Because I'm finding all of them. You are the worst at this. Just really terrible.

Good for George Mason

  • Mar. 10th, 2010 at 12:03 PM
Recently, our wonderful Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli sent a letter to colleges and universities stating that they had no authority to affirm nondiscrimination policies that included equal protection for gender and sexual orientation.

Yes, I live in a progressive state. Right up against DC, which, on Wednesday last, legalized same-sex marriage. You'd think it would take a hint from the national capital, but apparently not.

However, on a more positive note, George Mason University, where I work, released this notice today:

Statement Concerning Non-Discrimination at George Mason University

Last week the Virginia Attorney General sent a letter concerning the interpretation of a protected class in university non-discrimination policies. The letter was sent to President Merten, the Board of Visitors, and Visitors of all the state's public universities.

I have asked the Administration to assemble the appropriate policies to ensure that the University remains committed to equal protection under the law. To that end, the Board of Visitors extends its full and unconditional support to all members of the University community and encourages continued focus on diversity and mutual respect that has become our hallmark.

OMG an actual update?

  • Mar. 9th, 2010 at 3:08 PM
Soooo I'm waiting for Ashley to meet me in the library, so I may as well update, I guess. Leeeet's see.

RP front: Looking for somewhere to play Ted at the moment, since Hotel CA had drama I would rather not be a part of and a mod that seemed to uh -- make drama. So I'm working on two apps for him at the moment, should have one done tonight. [info]theothermansion lives, but slowly. Hey guys, spread the word! :D Also to DF-ers on the flist, if you were a member of DF, your first puppet is freeeeee. Huh? Sound good? We don't bite, I promise~

Real life front: School started a couple weeks ago. I'm taking Fashion 110 (Design/Set design) which is kind of hard but fun at the same time, English 1C --where we're studying Jesus as a historical figure...weird but interesting, so yeah. And, of course, musical theatre, as it is the one class that tends to keep me sane. Also taking Advanced Theatrical Makeup -- we're doing character makeup. Last week I turned Ashley into Two-face. This week I'm turning Sir into Tia Dalma/Calypso. That class is way fun, oh man.

Ummm, let's see. Work has been evil with hours, lately -- especially this week. I only have 8 1/2 hours for the whole fucking week. At least I've been picking up shifts at other stores, so that's nice. Hmmm. Iiii don't know what else to say.

Oh, wait! Looked at ComicCon schedule stuff, and they still have one-day tickets available for July 25 and the Thursday before that. They're both right around $20 for the adult price, so we'll see if that actually happens. I hope it does, ComicCon would be fun to go to. On the subject of comics, I ordered Countdown to Infinite Crisis and Justice League International #3 -- as much as the first one depresses me, I really should read it. And Chris at Comics Factory said he'd help me find more Blue Beetle stuff. \o/ (Also they have a chubby!Ted action figure there. I NEED IT IN MY LIFE, OH GOD.)

Pimpin' RP

Anyone remember me griping about how there didn't seem to be any meta-permitted, freeform mingling comms other than [info]dear_mun out there?

[info]theformofstars and [info]allaroughdraft (and another mod with whom am I not acquainted, I think), are starting one up.

Head on over and app at [info]embassylaments. Because I like this idea and I want to see it succeed.

Excuse me while I steal their profile code:

THE EMBASSY
Does your character need a place to rant? Do they want somewhere to go so that they can take a break from the nuttiness of the game they're currently in? What about those ones whose canon seem dead set on making them absolutely miserable? Maybe they just need a place to go relax away from home for a few days?

Well, boys and girls, this is where the Embassy comes in.

We're offering a place for your character to take a break, whether its from canon, their current game or whatever it is they may be up to. They can kick back, poke at other people or do whatever it is they want -- even, if they so choose, complain at you.

Fourth wall? We know not of this fourth wall that you speak of.

So come on in! Have a drink, commiserate with your fellow muses for a few hours before you're dragged back to whatever bizarre, ridiculous and/or miserable things your mun has concocted for you!
